About

Disappearing Corners: It’s not about the buildings that are disappearing physically, but disappearing from our minds and memories. We’re here to retrieve these old tales to share with all of you, in hope that we can sometimes stand for a minute to appreciate these old hovels that we walk pass everyday but without knowing their existence.

A personal project founded by CĂntia Kou as Disappearing Corners in 2002 with a simple aim to document Macau’s architectural heritage through photography and stories, it is now a loose group of expats based in Shanghai researching the stories of these houses, and organizes walk tours to rediscover Shanghai’s hidden gems.

Meanwhile, as we’re speeding up to complete this website, which will by then contain information of all these houses, please feel free to take a look at our collection of images we took over the years by clicking this link.
