Astor House

Address: 15 Huangpu Road

Built in 1826 during the Qing Dynasty, it’s originally known as Richard’s Hotel and lots of celebrities and famous people like Chaplin and Einstein have stayed there. It’s the first place in China to have electrical lamps lightened (in 1882) and it’s still a hotel now.

Kylie and I toured the whole building, from the dirty lobby, the over-the-top ballroom and those cheaply renovated corridors
