Broadway Mansions

The Art Deco Broadway Mansions was originally built in 1934 as an exclusive residential hotel by the British. It was then sold to the Japanese in 1937 and later housed the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of China after World War II. After liberation, the Shanghai Municipal overtook the hotel and renamed it to Shanghai Mansion in 1951. It’s most recent renovation took place in 2006 and is still a hotel; though unfortunately, this renovation couldn’t bring the mansion back to its original beauty…

I last visited this building on a winter day in 2003 and took some pictures of it. I still remember the Beyer Logo on the top of the building, which is now removed.
